Paying
Payments on Matheia go securely through Stripe to your tutor or their organization. Here's how it works.
How you pay
When a booking is accepted, or a monthly plan or cohort month is due, you pay through a secure Stripe checkout — card details are handled by Stripe, not stored by Matheia. Once a payment goes through, the session or class is confirmed and shows up in your portal.
Paying in your currency
Where a tutor offers more than one currency, you can choose which to pay in when you book. The price you see is the price you pay — there's no hidden conversion. If your currency isn't offered, you'll see the tutor's default currency.
Recurring plans, month by month
A recurring plan is billed one month at a time, not all at once. Your first payment covers the first month of lessons; each later month is charged before it begins. About a week before each new month, that month's lessons are opened for you to adjust — drop a date you can't make, or ask to move one. Five days before the month starts that window closes and your tutor confirms the schedule. They can answer each of your changes separately, so an answer may be partial: a lesson they can't move stays where it was and is charged for as planned, while your other changes still go through. Your plan shows you which is which. They have until three days before the month begins to do that, so you always have at least three days to pay, and the month is due by the last day of the month before it. If your tutor doesn't answer in time the month is settled for you rather than left hanging: dates you asked to drop are dropped and not charged for, dates you asked to move stay as they were, and you are told which is which. Once your first payment goes through, every lesson in the plan is held for you — later months are reserved in your tutor's calendar, not just pencilled in. They stay yours as long as the plan continues, so if you know a date won't work, say so in the adjustment window. You'll be emailed when a month opens for adjustment, and again when your tutor has confirmed it and it's ready to pay — so you shouldn't have to watch the calendar for these dates yourself. If you book close to the start of the following month, your first payment covers both that month and the next one. There simply isn't time to run the adjustment window for a month that's days away, so it's confirmed and paid up front instead — and your plan settles into the normal monthly rhythm from the month after. When you book, the page shows exactly what you're paying now and lists the months that follow with their two dates, so nothing about the schedule is a surprise.
Payments due
Anything waiting for payment appears in your portal — pending lesson payments, a cohort seat to pay for, or this month's instalment. Each has a deadline; if you don't pay in time, an unpaid booking is released, and a missed monthly cohort payment leads to a short grace period before you're removed. Pay from the relevant page in your portal before the deadline to keep your place.
Receipts and invoices
You receive a payment confirmation for each successful payment. If your tutor or organization issues invoices, they appear under Invoices in your portal. Adding your billing details in Settings lets tutors who invoice include them.
